Zoolander No. 2 movie: light in plotline but still funny #Zoolander2

Let me start off by saying I am a HUGE Zoolander fan and often quote from the original movie in daily life so I can tell you I was beyond excited to see the sequel 15 years in the making, Zoolander No. 2!

Please Note: I was invited as media to the movie screening. Any views expressed are always 100% my own.

Similar to the first movie, Zoolander 2 is light in plot line, with a lot of jokes thrown into the mix, some hitting the mark and many that don't, followed by a parade of high profile star cameos. The movie is likable but lacks the memorable one liners in the original, making it just a ridiculously good looking movie rather than a really, really ridiculously good looking one like the first.

The movie picks up years later after the ending from the first one, with dimwitted Derek and Hansel living secluded lives after a terrible tragedy that created a rift between them but are brought back together in Rome when each think they are reviving their fashion careers, only to be pulled in by Interpol to help solve a crazy criminal plot involving pop star deaths.

Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson have still got it with their on screen duo chemistry as brainless has-been models. Seeing the original cast to varying degrees was a treat for hardcore fans like myself. Newcomers Penelope Cruz as sexy Interpol fashion police Valentina is game and Kristin Wiig as haute couture fashion empress Alexanya Atoz is a scene stealer in the small time she has on screen.

Will Ferrell returns as the villainous Mugatu with his usual antics and has some of the best jokes in the movie. The star studded movie is bloated with so many cameos (don't want to spoil all of them!), some well used (Keifer Sutherland) and others I think were just there so they can later say they were in Zoolander 2 (Hi Katy Perry)!

Hardcore Zoolander fans will likely want to see Zoolander 2 if for just nostalgic sake and chuckles but in the end, sequels rarely surpass the original.

Movie Synopsis:

When the world's most beautiful musical celebrities are systematically assassinated with formerly famous male model Derek Zoolander's iconic "Blue Steel" look on their face, Interpol recruits Derek and his friend Hansel McDonald to infiltrate a new and different world of high fashion in order to put a stop to it.

Meanwhile, Derek's rival Jacobim Mugatu is set free and is seeking revenge.

Rating: PG-13 (for crude and sexual content, a scene of exaggerated violence, and brief strong language.)

Directed By: Ben Stiller
Written By: Justin Theroux, Ben Stiller, Nicholas Stoller, John Hamburg
