HTC recently unveiled New York as the latest city in its series of Global Design Tours, a free Android app optimized for its HTC One handset that allows users to browse industry-led recommendations on ‘must see’ and ‘must do’ design hotspots around the world.

Optimized for the new HTC One, the world’s first full zero-gap aluminum unibody smartphone, each piece of app content will be complemented by specially selected music tracks, bringing to life the dual front-facing speakers of the HTC BoomSound™ feature for a multi-sensory experience.

Tracks include ‘Sunday Morning’ by Velvet Underground at Noguchi Museum as it’s the “perfect place to go on Sunday morning (or Sunday afternoon) after a long night of showroom parties!”, whereas those seeking out homes store Mociun should play ‘Blouse’ by Into Black who’s “breathy, sun-drenched vocals match the bright, eclectic store that's a favorite of the super hip Willamsburg set.”

Developed in collaboration with renowned design magazine Wallpaper*, the New York design locations focus on uncommon experiences, from sipping a cocktail in a library at NoMad, to eating lunch in a classroom at M. Wells Dinette or shopping for your surfboard in Brooklyn at Pilgrim Surf Supply.

From May 18 – 21, 2013, New York will further cement its status as an iconic design city when it plays host to the 25th annual International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF), North America’s platform for global design.

The curators of the New York app - Wallpaper* New York Editor Pei-Ru Keh, One & Co (HTC) Principal Irina Kozlovskaya and British-born/New York-based fashion designer Andrew Wren - pick the best of pop-up exhibitions during ICFF. Wanted Design and American Design Club lead the charge and highlight budding American design talent. The curators also reveal the noteworthy and undiscovered design sites accessible all year-round that prove that New York’s design flavor is as strong as other places in the world.

Using the app, visitors can experience something different by immersing themselves in the city’s more unusual design locations. From designing and building their own cookie in Andrew’s dining recommendation of Peels to re-imagining “the city that never sleeps” from a different vantage point at the beautifully designed Four Freedom Park, a stunning memorial to Franklin D. Roosevelt – this app has something for all.

The Wallpaper* HTC Global Design Tours is available to download for free from the Google Play store
